A Thank You
From Uncle Ikes
All the little Ikes in the Uncle Ikes program would like to
thank all of you who participated in the Hillbilly Auction by
either donating items for sale or bidding on items.
As you may know the Hillbilly Auctions are the primary funding
source for the Uncle Ikes program. In spite of the relatively
low number of bidders the Uncle Ikes did realize net receipts of
approximately $650.
Mike Roland, the mentor of the Uncle Ikes program for the past
several years, has been instrumental in making the Uncle Ikes
program a thing of pride for our chapter. He finds a way to come
up with programs and outings, that keep the interest of the
little Ikes. I think he should be congratulated for his great
effort. He and his wife Carol come to the club house early on
the days of the Hillbilly auction to get things sorted through
and displayed. They also do the tallying of the proceeds after
the auction.
This program is an important life line for the future of our
chapter, since these little Ikes are our future members.

Take a Moment
to Reflect on And Enjoy Your Surroundings
Since the State convention is still a week away and
everybody is busy trying to gets things organized for it I
wasn’t able to come up with any news or timely articles. I went
out on my deck Saturday evening to see if I could think of
something. While there, I began to reflect on the beauty and
tranquility of my surroundings.
The flowering Snow Crab tree off to the southwest of my deck was
in full bloom. The white blossoms looked like perfectly formed
snowballs and I began to look at the contiguous yards. None of
my neighbors have elected to erect fences, so it made the
greenbelt behind our homes look like a rolling emerald carpet. I
took a deep breath of the air that was filled with the sweet
fragrance of the Shubert Cherry tree at the back of the yard,
and I marveled at how beautiful and serene nature can be.
At that moment I began to truly realize the importance of
organizations like ours that are dedicated to maintaining and
improving the environment. It then dawned on me that in this
fast paced world we live in we all could find some relief from
our anxieties by taking a moment to step into a natural
surrounding and just reflect on and enjoy the beauty that is
nature.
