Second Annual
Swap Meet Renamed and Scheduled
The 2nd annual Des Moines Izaak Walton League Fishing, Hunting,
Outdoor Sports, Boating and Gun Show, (formerly called Swap
Meet), has been scheduled for January 26 and 27, 2008. The show
will feature fishing and hunting gear of all kinds; boats, guns,
fishing and hunting resorts, archery equipment, wildlife art and
outdoor furniture.
This will be a great family event with laser guns to test your
shooting skills, hunting and fishing raffle items, 2008 hunting
& fishing licenses for sale, and DNR seminars, plus archery
clinics, for the kids, with Outdoors Dan. We will also have food
and refreshments for sale.
Show hours are: Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday 9 am to 3 pm. (Be
sure to bring your knives for sharpening)
Admission fees: Adults $3 and ages 12 and under free.
There are still some exhibit spaces available at $30/table for
Ike members and $40 for non-members. For more information or to
reserve exhibit space please contact Sonny Satre at 515-480-1728
or email to “sonnysatre@mchsi.com”
Rifles and Shotguns Needed
The Ikes will have a table at the show to sell rifles and
shotguns for any member wanting to get rid of one they don’t use
anymore. We will try to sell your firearm at the price you
request. We have experts who can help you with setting a price,
if needed. If interested, contact Wimpy Stifel at 515-226-9558
or Sonny Satre at 515-480-1728. (Fed regulations don’t allow us
to sell handguns)

Grinnell Fish
Fry by Roger Schoonover
On the evening of November 1st a group of DM Ikes, guided by our
club President, took the “Jomobile” to Grinnell for their annual
fish fry. We arrived at the Eagles Lodge, where the fish fry is
held, at 6:15.
The Grinnell Ikes are a small chapter of only 40 members, but
led by their president, Steve Meek, have a great team effort and
everything goes very well.
All the food is made fresh and they actually caught most of the
fish they served. They feed 400 to 500 people and when they say,
“all you can eat”, they mean it.
This is the Grinnell Ike’s only fund raiser of the year so, next
year, load up a car or van and drive over to show them our
support. When you see people working together like these fellow
Ikes do, it makes you proud to say, “I’m an Ike”.
