Hey! The Big
Event is Finally Here This Weekend
The 2nd Annual Des Moines Izaak Walton League Fishing, Hunting,
Outdoor Sports, Boating and Gun Show, (formerly called Swap
Meet), will be here, at our Club House, Sat. Jan 26 & Sun Jan
27. The show will feature fishing and hunting gear of all kinds;
boats, guns, fishing and hunting resorts, archery equipment,
wildlife art and outdoor furniture.
This truly will be a great family event with laser guns to test
your shooting skills, hunting and fishing raffle items, 2008
hunting & fishing licenses for sale, and DNR seminars, plus
archery clinics, for the kids, with Outdoors Dan. We will also
have food and refreshments for sale.
Show hours are: Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday 9 am to 3 pm. (Be
sure to bring your knives for sharpening)
Admission fees: Adults $3 and ages 12 and under free.
Vendors are reminded that set up day is January 25 from 10 am to
4 pm. (If you have a small display you can set up at 7:30 am Jan
26, but to avoid congestion we encourage you to set up Jan 25.)
You can pick up your Vendor Show Passes at the DSM membership
table, when you set up.
Rifles and Shotguns Needed
The Ikes will have a table at the show to sell rifles and
shotguns for any member wanting to get rid of one they don’t use
anymore. We will try to sell your firearm at the price you
request. We have experts who can help you with setting a price,
if needed. If interested, contact Wimpy Stifel at 515-226-9558
or Sonny Satre at 515-480-1728. (Fed regulations don’t allow us
to sell handguns) |

Ike’s Ice
Fishing Outing Returns
Finally, it looks like Mother Nature is favoring the Ice
Fisherman. As I’m sure you are aware, the annual DSM Ike’s Ice
Fishing outing could not be held due to a lack of ice.
We now have enough ice to schedule the ice fishing outing at “3
mile” lake. The event is scheduled for February 8 & 9. Rod Kent
has advised me that there are still two cabins left. The price
is $90, total and each sleeps four. The cabins are equipped with
a refrigerator, microwave, couch and a table with 4 chairs.
For additional information contact Rod Kent at 285-2358 or at
the bar, on Tuesday nights. You will need to pay your money to
Rod in advance.
Membership Cards and the Process
A number of members, after a week or more has passed since
paying their dues, have expressed concern about not receiving
their membership card.
To help address this concern I thought it might be good to
explain the process. After receiving your dues, either at the
door or in the mail I will prepare a report to the National
Membership office (Usually once a week on Fridays) and note on
our membership list that you have paid. The National office will
then process our submittal and, in two to three weeks, the
membership cards for that submittal will be sent to us.
Therefore, it could be three to four weeks before we receive
your card. |
