Delays in
Receiving Newsletters
A number of members have contacted me about receiving the last
couple of newsletters late. They have received them in the mail
after the date of the first meal listed therein. I’ll explain
the cause and how I’ll try to remedy this problem.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience the delay may have caused, but
as you will see by my explanation of the process the problem was
unforeseen and out of our control. (Should a delay occur in the
future and you have a concern as to the menu please call
244-3773 and select option 1 for the menus and programs for the
month).
The process has consisted of my preparing the newsletter on the
weekend 9 days in advance of the newsletter date. I send it to
the printer on Sunday night, for printing and addressing. The
Printer delivers it to the Post Office on Wednesday morning and
usually you would receive the Newsletter by Saturday, at the
latest. (e.g.: Prepare on 1/26 or 27, send to printer
electronically 1/27, Printer delivers to Main Post Office
Wednesday 1/30 and it’s delivered by 2/2) This process has been
followed for approx. 4 years and until the past Christmas
holiday season has worked very well. However, beginning with the
last Newsletter of 2007 the Post Office must have changed some
procedures because I received notice that they processed the
mailing on Wednesday just as before, but they weren’t delivered
for 7 days. At first I thought it was just a quirk of the
holidays, but the pattern has been repeated with the last two
newsletters and I believe this one will be late as well.

Newsletter
Delays (Continued)
I’m going to try to remedy the problem by making a slight
adjustment to the process.
As you will notice on the front page I have the menus listed for
three meetings, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 4. The next
Newsletter will be for March 11 and March 18.
While this minor adjustment of doing the Newsletter 16 days in
advance instead of 9 may seem trivial I assure you it is not and
may prove to be a problem in the future. Notices of upcoming
events and member recognitions will have to be provided to me
three weeks in advance. This also goes for the menus. While our
manager has agreed to try to do this it can be a significant
problem. Our manager, not only has to plan the meals to tempt
the palate, but also to provide you with quality meals at the
lowest price. To do this he is continually checking with our
suppliers on prices. Since the prices have been very volatile
for the past year it is difficult to determine what we will have
to pay for a given cut of meat that far in advance.
I hope this long epistle adequately explains the situation.
