Notes From President, Tom Holm

New Save Our Streams Coordinator:

The IWLA has named Kami Watson as the Save Our Streams Coordinator. She will coordinate and implement the League’s Watershed Education and Outreach Program and will be responsible for managing stream-related activities for the Watershed Programs and assisting the Director and Wetlands Coordinator on all other Watershed and Wetland events.

Kami has an expansive background in watershed education, water quality and land-use impact. She comes to the League from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation where she managed the Susquehanna Watershed Education Program. “I’m sure S.O.S. will blossom under her care” said Leah Miller, the League’s Director of Watershed Programs.

Trees and Shrubs for Wildlife Habitat:

Trees and shrubs for Wildlife Habitat will be available, at a low cost, from the Iowa DNR this spring.

The Songbird packet, consisting of 20 8-24 inch bare root tree & shrub seedlings, was developed in cooperation with the Audubon Iowa and is available at a cost of $20 inclusive of shipping.

For landowners with two to five acres there are special wildlife packets, consisting of 200 trees and shrubs, available at a cost of $90 inclusive of shipping.

For more information, or to place your order contact the State Forest Nursery in Ames at 1-800-865-2477 or go on line www.iowadnr.com/forestry.
