Notes
From President, Tom Holm
Another Way
to Keep Ticks at Bay:
I read the following article by a Pete Costerbader of Virginia
Beach, VA: “The absolute best method of keeping ticks and other
insects at bay is Permanone Permethrin aerosol spray for
complete protection.” (I assume it is sprayed on camping gear
and clothing not on the person)
“Permanone can last three weeks and with a little touch-up
spraying, works all spring. It takes some planning to get gear
sprayed and dried before opening day but, once done, you can
forget ticks and chiggers.” (My comment is to try at your own
risk)
Wetlands Campaign Update from IWLA Exec. Board:
“We are pleased to provide this information on our Wetlands
Protection Campaign. We raised more money than hoped, and the
Administration abandoned its ill-advised plan to issue a new
wetlands rule that we believe would have weakened protection for
about 20 million acres of small isolated wetlands. These
wetlands are among the most biologically valuable.
The fight is not over. We are still losing about 100,000 acres
of wetlands per year. The President has made a commitment to
both “no net loss” of wetlands, and wetland restoration. We will
use the balance of these funds to see these commitments take
place on the ground.”
May is American Wetlands Month and between now and May I will
include additional wetland information in this Newsletter.
