Bass/Crappie outing – May 14 & 15.

The annual Ike’s Bass and Crappie outing  is scheduled for May 14 and 15th at Lake Rathbun.

Reserve your campsite and pay fee, if applicable, at Bridgeview Campgrounds.  Campsites without electricity are free, but for those with electricity, located nearby, there is a small fee.

There will be a fishing contest and feed on Saturday.  Prizes for the longest fish, (specified species), will be given, but they must be checked in at the Ike’s campsite by 4:30 p. m. and must have been caught in Lake Rathbun.  The feed will be at 5:30 p.m.  (There is a $10 per person charge).

Contact Fred Noon, 283-0227, with questions or to sign up.  Or sign up at the chapter house on Tuesday evenings.

Weekend Angler – Clever Tips

  • Not all baitcasting rods come with a hook keeper.  I drill a small hole through the trigger on the handle and run the hook through the hole when storing or transporting the rod.

  • I’m 78 years young and still chase after those finny creatures, but my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be.  To make my line more visible when changing lures and tying knots, I just touch up the tag end with a bright-colored permanent marker.  Sure makes retying faster and easier!

Thank you from the S.O.S. committee

We had a great turnout, more than 20 Ikes, at the Yeader Creek clean up project, April 3rd.  The Parks Dept. hauled numerous truck loads of trees, brush and vines while another  group filled a garbage truck with bags of trash.

We got even more done than we had hoped.  You can now see the creek at S.E. 14th and McKinley.

Phase 2 will require some equipment to terrace the bank, north of Home Depot.  If you can help with this project, please call me at 249-4896.

Thanks to all for your efforts; Jack Soulis, Chairman
