From President, Tom Holm
IWLA To Offer Free Webcast Workshops
On October 12 the
League will launch its first of six web cast workshops for
activists, land managers, transportation planning officials and
homeowners on “Wetlands Protection”.
“The webcasts are
not replacing our traditional on-the-ground workshops that have
proved so successful, but gives us a powerful new tool to
educate the public and policymakers, said Leah Miller, director
of watershed programs for the IWLA.
Anyone interested in
protecting wetlands will be able to participate from the comfort
of their desk at work, or even their kitchen table if they
choose. Each free webcast workshop will be produced and
conducted by the League’s clean water staff. Those who are
interested in the webcasts can sign up at
http://www.iwla.org/sos/sosweb.htm.
Two of the webcasts
will be specifically targeted to homeowners and the other four
for land and transportation planners.
Topics for the
homeowner’s workshops will be “Wetland-Friendly Lawn and
Garden”, and “Backyard wetlands”. The first will spotlight on
how to care for lawns and gardens in ways to protect and improve
local water resources. The second workshop will focus on how to
care for backyard wetlands, vernal pools, or bogs.
Topics for land and
transportation planners include “Using Low Impact Development
Techniques to Manage Highway Runoff”, “Planning for Low Impact
Development Highway Projects”, Designing Low Impact development
Highway Projects”, and “Maintaining Low Impact Development
Highway Projects”.
The webcasts will be
available live on the Internet through streaming video.
Participants will be able to interact with the Presenters. The
sessions will be archived on the web site and available on DVD
for future use. |
