Uncle Ike’s Up Date

The annual camp out was Aug. 13, 14 and 15th at Saylorville Lake.  We had 12 youngsters and 13 adults.  The highlight of the week end was a boat ride in Rod Rumer’s boat.

A special thanks to John and Jan Rumer, Tina McGiff and all the parents that helped make this a nice outing.  Also, I would like to thank Wimpy, “Outdoor” Dan Young and The Tackle Shack for their contributions of worms and fishing equipment.

An Unofficial Poll

In this, an election year, we are continually bombarded with, so called, scientific polls. Well I offer the results of a poll of my own. Which I believe is far more accurate than any you receive from the media.

While working our booth at the Fair we were also collecting signatures for a pro “bottle bill” petition. During my 4 hour shift we collected better than a dozen sheets full of signatures. This in itself is not the poll. What I consider an unofficial poll is considering, not only the number of those signing the petition versus those electing not to sign, but also listening to the comments. (The number signing versus those not signing was approximately 240 to 5) Most of those signing did so enthusiastically. Many who signed thought the bill should be strengthened to include other items such as plastic water bottles and various picnic items. Some even thought the deposit should be increased to 10 or 15 cents.

Hunter Safety Education Courses

The last Hunter safety education class is scheduled for September 2, 8 and 9 from 6 pm to 9:30 pm at our club house.  Participants must attend all three sessions to receive certification.

While not part of the scheduled curriculum I offer this quip:  “It would be prudent to not hunt with anyone nicknamed Chug-A-Lug.”

Door prizes

We are in need of door prizes for the weekly drawing. See the new program chairman, to be named Aug 23rd, or Larry Clark if you can donate an item.
