Annual River Run/Garbage Grab is Huge Success
The
third annual event held August 21 was a huge success.
Participants were: Ike members Rod Kent, Fred Noon, Tom Holm,
Don Richman, Rick Galloway, John Deutremont and Cleon McMahan;
Central Iowa Paddlers Robin Fortney, Lynn Aldridge, Don Propst
and Friend, Bob McConkey, Susan and David Hayes, Brian Soener,
Kevin Sheilds, Bill Graham, Phyliss Goodman, Hank Ostwalt and
Kerry Horner. Bill Wineland and Megan Wisecup, DNR, provided and
operated the large flat bottom boat loaded with the garbage from
the canoes and kayaks that came down the river.
A
special thanks to Larry Clark for providing the food and
beverage, Bill Stowe, City of Des Moines, for providing
dumpsters and Dan Young, host of “Outdoors Dan” for providing
the prizes.

To Steve
Correll for Donating a rock to be used as a memorial and to
Larry Simpson for delivering it.

Hunter Safety Education Courses
Update From
Gary Trullinger, Polk County Hunter Safety Instructor:
We have
certified 65 students from our July Hunter Safety certification
class and 67 from our August class. 75 students of the 100 who
pre-registered attended the first September class meeting,
September 2. I would like to thank all of the volunteer
instructors from Ikes for their help with the classes. I would
also like to thank Larry Clark for his secretarial help on
pre-registrations.

chairman, to be named Aug 23rd, or Larry Clark if you can donate
