Notes from President, Tom Holm I would like to extend a thank you to all the D.M. chapter members who volunteered their time to work the IWLA booth at the fair. It wouldn’t happen without the D.M. Ikes. State Convention Notes: We had a great convention. The Ottumwa Chapter did an outstanding job. The Chapter House was immaculate, the food great and we had a perfect day for the trap shoot. The ladies from Indianola showed the guys how to shoot. I think a 48 and 49. Indianola was the winning team. National President, Chuck Clayton, came all the way from South Dakota to speak to us. He did a great job, as usual, but told us of the proposed dues increase. After a thorough discussion the State delegates voted not to support the $10 proposed increase however, the increase passed at the National Convention and will be effective January 1, 2005. The Des Moines Chapter had five 2004 award winners. They are: Dan Young – Ries Tuttle Communication Jim Caligiuri – Hall of Fame Jerry Overman – Rookie of the Year (shared with 3 others) D.M. Chapter – Fishhook (most delegates & most miles driven) Earl Kaminsky – Joe & Marie Thiry, “New Member Recruiting” I will have more on the convention in the next newsletter.   Door prizes We are in need of door prizes for the weekly drawing. See the program chairman, Sonny Satre if you can donate an item.

Hillbilly Auction The Hillbilly Auction, one of the primary funding sources of Uncle Ike’s activities, is coming up October 19th. So, let’s have a great turnout to support Uncle Ikes. The kids really thank you for the support provided for the campout & crafts that we do at Uncle Ikes. It’s all made possible by you helping out at the Hillbilly auction!   Thank You From Rod Kent I want to thank Ed Dillman Grading for answering the call, again when the prairie needed to be mowed. Ed donated the equipment and his time to get the job done. When you see him, on Tuesday night, go up and personally thank him.   Visit to the Newton Chapter Volunteer bartender, Ken Dirksen, made arrangements for the following people to visit the Newton Chapter: Rod Kent, Ken Dirksen, Bo Galloway, Dick Galloway, Tom Holm, Don Richman, Gill O’Hara and Cliff Rooney.
